MW Restaurant Afternoon Tea (Oahu)-- Revisited.

10/21/2016

MW Honolulu Oahu (Afternoon Tea) Savory items.
Savory items for this month's afternoon tea. Tea set also included fresh mixed berry scone with Yuzu Curd (not shown).

Last trip, our MW Restaurant server said to us "see you next month!"

Well, it's finally a month later and another girl's afternoon out.
(Don't worry if you're a guy, I saw quite a number of male customers during tea time).

[List of Savory items above-- from bottom left to right]:
  • Pork and Foie Gras Won Ton.  Deep-fried and meaty goodness!
  • Sausage, Eggs, and Rice Pork Ball.   Good, but couldn't remember much about it other than it was topped with marinara sauce and I quickly scarfed it down.
  • Jidori Chicken Lumpia.   Very interesting combination with fried Curry Leaves and Hoisin sauce.  The chicken was soft and moist, while the Lumpia was perfectly crunchy!
  • Steamed Opah Dumpling with Matsutake Broth.  This was my favorite.  The filling reminds me of Hong Kong-style Shrimp Dumpling.   The Matsutake really brings a delicate but earthy touch.
  • Mixed Grain "Fried Rice."   Table consensus for this was not a fan favorite.  It had what tasted similar to Chinese Black beans in multi-grain rice.  Not bad but you really have to like the ingredients to fully appreciate.
  • Stuffed Scallop Hash.  It was smothered in a delicious spicy sauce (though I will say the pepper content was quite assertive so it had a big kick).
  • Chilled Cauliflower Saffron Soup.  [Center]  I thought it was Kabocha for a second.  Really creamy with bits of seafood.  Very refreshing.

Since it's a re-visit, I will keep things simple.
Both food and service is still solidly good.

Though I do wish we had the same server as last visit
as they were incredibly nice.

This visit was slightly different from all the other tea time in that we were joined
by an Afternoon Tea virgin (wait...did I really say/ type that out loud)?
It's always fun to see other's first impressions when they've never
had Afternoon Tea before.

[Desserts]

This month's dessert theme was "Kabocha" (Japanese Winter Squash).
MW Restaurant Honolulu (Kabocha Persimmon Panna Cotta Dessert).
Kabocha Persimmon Panna Cotta + Miso Kabocha Macaron. The Panna Cotta was wonderful! There were bits of tapioca and crunchy granola. I loved everything about this dessert!

The middle dessert (Kabocha Pie with Cinnamon Chiboust) reminds me of  Luxor Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas ;).

All of the desserts tasted really good this visit.

I will no longer look at Kabocha in the same light again.
Nevermind the fact that I probably can't hack open one myself,
but I shall bow down to this glorious vegetable from now on.

[MW Restaurant Wines]

I didn't order wine with tea but handy to have for reference later (for dinner maybe?).

Just a page from their wine menu to give you an idea of prices by the bottle (Pinot Noir).
[Wines B-T-G]
MW Restaurant Honolulu (Wines by the glass menu).
Wines by the glass is very comparable to other mid-range/ higher end restaurants.

If you can make it to MW's Afternoon Tea (once a month, on the 3rd Sunday from 11a-3p), I highly recommend it!
It's the only Afternoon Tea on Oahu that offers a different menu each time.

For directions and restaurant information, please refer to my original Afternoon Tea review (from last month).
