Da Crawfish & Crab Shack  (Kapolei, Oahu).

Da Crawfish & Crabshack Oahu (Combo meals). Cajun seafood with Crawfish, Dungeness Crab).
Combo #3 (Clams, Shrimp, Crawfish, Dungeness Crab)- $60.

Before going to any restaurant, it's a given I will scour the internet for other's experiences.

But this time, for Da Crawfish & Crabshack, my Fiance decided to surprise me since he didn't even tell me where we were going to until we arrived.

This (newer) branch is located inside the  Kapiolei Marketplace.
But I didn't have any expectations as I've never heard of it until now.

At first glance, their menu looks a bit similar to other Cajun Seafood restaurants.

We got seated really quick.  Once we ordered, the food came out pretty fast as well.

We were seated right next the entrance on the right (on the higher tables).

Whenever someone would open the door, we had to manually hold down the napkins,
and light items for fear it will fly to our neighbors.

I love garlic, so of course opted for the COMBO #3 with Butter Garlic sauce to the chagrin of my Fiance (he prefers seafood with with just dry seasoning).   But I'm the boss tonight (or should I say because he was going to drag me around to go Pokémon hunting later so he had to give in to something).

Da Crawfish & Crabshack Oahu (Cajun Fries and Crawfish), Aloha.
[Left]- The side of Cajun fries came out quick ($7).
I tried a shrimp, mussel, and crawfish first.
It's not bad by any means.

The flavors were very mild, just like garlic submerged in broth.   It left me wanting more flavor.

Perhaps their "Cajun" style is way better?

Finally, it was time to tackle the Dungeness Crab.
We've only been doing  a staring contest up until then.
But it dawn on me Mr. Crab would be a tough opponent as I was only armed with a plastic sheller.

Seeing my hesitation to not risk the strength of my teeth,
my Fiance volunteers to de-shell them for me to eat (so sweet).  :)

Again, same reaction as the other items.  I want more flavor.

[PROS]
  • Service was pretty fast (from getting seated, ordering, and receiving our food).

  • The wait staff was friendly.
  • The seafood was cooked just right.

[CONS]
  • Where's the crab/ lobster cracker??
    • We were only provided with a plastic sheller with a disposable fork.   It made  the eating experience a challenge.
  • We didn't get asked if we wanted anything to drink (they just assumed we only wanted water).  I didn't see a drink menu also.   But could it be because they want you to go up to the bar and order?
  • Although staff was nice,  they didn't check up on us much.

[NOTE]
  • While they provide you with "a" wet wipe, I feel like more would have been helpful (hey, eating with your hands get really messy fast!).   Other restaurants generally give out a handful.
  • There's only 2 bathrooms in the restaurant (1 stall per gender).

The restaurant seems like it would be a good place for a really large gathering.    The large party next to us ordered several of the $180 Combo #5s (includes Snow, Dungeness and King Crab, along  with Lobster.  This is in addition to the shrimp, clams, crawfish and mussels.  It looked massive and a sight to behold.

Da Crawfish & Crab Shack claims to have the #1 seafood in Hawaii and have a whole bunch of 5 star reviews on Yelp.    At the most, our visit was just average.

Maybe our experience isn't that typical?

I'm glad I got to try this place out.  I really wanted to love it,  but based on the food and overall dining experience, I'm going back to Cajun King which I adore (see my review).
