Osaka (Kaiyukan) Aquarium
Fishing Store
The Fishing Arcade at Dotonbori
Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan
Osaka (Kaiyukan) Aquarium is one of our favorite place to go to in Osaka. We enjoy seeing all of the different sea mammals and their massive whale shark. Good fun for all ages! I recommend getting their value discount pass (Kaiyu Kippu) if you can. It gives you admission to the Aquarium + one day unlimited subway, bus, and tram rides within Osaka. It is not valid on Japan Rail (JR) trains. With it, you can immediately stand in the entry line without having to buy an admission ticket. It also gives you a small discount on certain listed sights in Osaka. . There's several variations to this pass, please reference this page for which one is the most suitable one for your trip. |
[TIP]- Double check their official calendar before you leave for the day.
It's possible that the operational hours have changed between the time you plan and actually visit.

Also, check out the Naniwa Kuishinbo Yokocho
next door (inside the Tempozan Marketplace) for food too.
It's a food themed park made to look like Osaka in the 60s. You can try all of Kansai's food specialties here including Takoyaki (Octopus balls) and Okonomiyaki (Grilled Savory Pancake), etc. Even if you don't find anything inside the food alley, there's a regular food court outside as well.

Fishing store
Fishing エイト (Eight)
Fishing is a huge sport in Japan. This mega-store (it's their main branch I believe) has 3 full levels of
just about EVERYTHING but the fish.
Don't believe me?
See their official walk through video below (ok, it's in Japanese of course but you get the idea).
If you are looking for sports fishing items, you should find it here. Nothing much for Salmon fishing though.
They do own several other branches as well. Their English page lists an overview map of all their branches in the Kansai area (Osaka, Hyogo, Kyoto). I do want to point out that it doesn't seem like the staff can speak English but if you know exactly what you are looking for, it shouldn't be too much of a problem (other than deciding what to buy).

Fishing Arcade (Dotonbori)
We first discovered this place a few years ago.
It's a fishing game with REAL fish inside an arcade in Dotonbori.
Located right by the Zuboraya (Pufferfish Restaurant) and Gyu-kaku.
You don't really win anything, since you need to release it as you can't take home your catch.
But if your points are high enough, you can have your picture plastered on their wall of fame.
