FUWARI Kanazawa Izakaya (風和利金沢市居酒屋) Snow Crab with Roe Winter Special, hiohio.net blog.
Seasonal Special (Snow crab filled with roe). You can't get it any fresher than this!

Just a short walk after Omi-cho Market, FUWARI is restaurant worth a visit.
Sure, you will be tempted to try out all of the beautiful seafood while passing by the market,
but if you can manage to walk pass the seafood temptation you will
find FUWARI to be a treat!

Appetizer

"Otoshi"-- Served automatically as it's included in the seating charge-- ‎¥300.
It's very common in Izakayas or Sushi restaurants.

Otoshi Appetizer Kanazawa Japan (Fuwari Izakaya).
I think this was spinach with crab meat with sesame dressing.

What you get for the Otoshi dish really depends on what the chef feels like.
So think of it as a surprise!

Assorted Sashimi Platter
(Restaurant Specialty)

FUWARI Kanazawa Izakaya (風和利金沢市居酒屋) Seasonal Sashimi Platter, hiohio.net blog.
Fish and seafood used in the Sashimi Platter is based on availability or season.
So it's possible you get served something else.

FUWARI Kanazawa Izakaya Japan (風和利金沢市居酒屋) Fried Oysters (Kaki Fry).
Fried Oysters
FUWARI Kanazawa Izakaya (風和利金沢市居酒屋) Croquette (Beef and Onion); Japanese Food.
Beef and Onion Croquette (we poured on the Tonkatsu sauce ourselves).
Kirin Japanese Beer (partially drank).

Beer seems like an appropriate match to their delicious food
(but they do sell other types of alcohol; see menu on the bottom of page).

I love that they sell Kirin (my preferred brand).

Mochi Pizza with Ham, Cheese, Onions; garnished with Seaweed and Shiso.
This is the first time I've had a Mochi Pizza.  What a great idea!

Food at FUWARI was outstanding!
We picked a few dishes ourselves, with the rest from the Chef's recommendation.
I don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu.

FUWARI Kanazawa Izakaya (風和利金沢市居酒屋) Pork Belly Grilled.

When we finished our main meals, Chef asked us if we wanted dessert.
Now normally I'm one to skip dessert, but I heard their Pear Sorbet is not to be missed.

The Sorbet arrives, and it looks quite ordinary.

One bite and the flavors blew me away...WOW!!!
It's super light, with just the right balance of sweet and tart.

It's super refreshing too-- never mind it's less than 30 degrees °F (-1.1 °C) outside.

I understand why this is their only dessert on the menu.
Excuse my language, but this is freaking delicious!

I'm coming back next time just to eat this.

Oh...and did I mention the best part-- it only cost
‎¥300??

(Our total meal for two with 3 beers came out to around
¥10,800--
what a bargain for an incredible meal!)

[VISITING TIPS]
  • FUWARI is only opened for dinner.
  • Do make a reservation!  (I used Gurnavi's free reservation support).
  • Counter Seating is preferred but they do have small tables.
  • For your information, they do allow smoking inside the restaurant.
  • Cash only (Yen).
  • English Friendly Menu.
  • Chef himself speaks good English; his wait staff can understand a little.
  • If after 4pm, its best to walk around the block of Omi-cho market instead of walking through it as majority of the shops have already closed.
  • After the sun sets, the area around the restaurant isn't that well-lit.
    • If you plan to hit up Higashi Chaya District prior to dinner at Fuwari, you should visit it early in the day (morning or mid-afternoon).  Although Kanazawa is really safe, it's not the easiest traversing in the dark through residential areas at night.

Building right by Fuwari has square, circle, and diamond-shaped windows.

Once you pass a parking lot and a concrete building with interesting shaped windows, FUWARI is on the right side

It was my dream to reach Japan for a vacation and I was able to fulfill it because I reached Osaka last June! Right after we landed and reached Dotunbori, I searched for a Ramen house and Takoyaki restaurants! On the other hand, I am happy to see that you had a great dining experience at Fuwari Izakaya Restaurant. By just looking at its interior design, I can instantly tell that they are selling great food there. You are lucky because you finally got the chance to dine there! Hopefully one day, I will get that chance too!
